Insurmountable.

It's everywhere,

all the time,

my mind.

Trying to unravel thoughts

and learning to unwind.

Looking for you somewhere,

in between the lines

on the street

as cars speed by.

What if I just took one more step?

Would you quicken your pace?

Or would you hesitate?

Would you lock eyes with me?

Would you sense my heart beginning to race?

Or would you turn away to further avoid your own pain?

Would you reach your hand to me?

Would you call out my name?

Or would you pretend you didn’t know me in an effort to remain sane?

As I stand in the sweet spot between safety and demise,

the chills on my neck are beginning to rise…

Not the same chills that I’m yearning for

But if I close my eyes and picture yours,

I can at least pretend

that those chills are coming from you again.

If I just took one more step

closer to you and

further from reality,

would you catch me?

Or would you bury us in your repressed memory as

forgetablly ordinary?
